examples of teaching
"music of the heart"
In this particular scene of the movie, a music teacher, Mrs. Demetres, is asked to change her teaching methods to a more subdued, gentler one. She finds it to be much less effective, thus returning to her more strict way of teaching. This clip speaks to me personally because it demonstrates that sometimes discipline is necessary in certain situations, but should still be taken to a certain extent. It allows the viewer to have some insight on how difficult it is to find the right balance for your teaching methods, depending on the specific kind of students you are working with. This clip offers a good way of teaching for this particular group of children. It is good for this group of students because their upbringings and environments lack structure, commitment, and discipline. This teaching method may not work for all children that a music teacher will come across, so the teacher must adjust their methods in order to fully benefit the student.
"dead poet's society"
In this scene of the movie, an English teacher named John Keating makes an effort to try and engage a student, using unorthodox methods. This method is successful as the student is finally able to showcase his poetic abilities. This demonstrates to the viewer that there are many different ways one can engage their students instead of using a traditional, outdated teaching method. John’s method allows the students to learn many useful skills, yet keeping them engaged and interested. This clip showcases great teaching skills, as John was able to inspire his students while still allowing them to reach their full capabilities.
